Buying Guide for Mobiles in India

Are you Planning to Buy a Mobile Phone? Is it because you saw some relative or a friend flaunting a high-tech phone? Well, anyways, whatever may the reason be, buying a mobile phone is a serious decision because that piece of technology will either make your life or mar it for the coming few months/years (depends upon you!)

Budget
Decide the maximum money that you are ready to spend on a phone. Are you planning to buy through Easy Instalments? or Simply a Cash Buy?

Where to Buy
Retailer or Online Portal

Buying from an online portal might be a good option if you are okay with the fact that you wont be able to physically see the phone/s. These days many online portals give heavy discounts which the retailers don't.

Smartphone? Or Feature Phone?

Do you want your phone to run Whatsapp? or a Email Client or a High-end Game like Angry Birds? If yes then you definitely need a Smartphone.

A feature phone is a phone which apart from the basic functions like SMS and Calls can also perform simple functions likeCalculator, Music Player, Camera, Radio. But it cannot Multi Task.
A smartphone is simply a device which can perform computing and processing functions in a similar manner as your PC does. 'Multi-Tasking' , 'Persistence' , 'Mobile-Computing' are some words which are used to describe a Smartphone. Remember, A smartphone is always a Feature phone but a Feature phone is not always a Smartphone.

Do think about after sales service

Buying a feature rich phone is important….. and so is  thinking about the after sales service.
Think about a scene where your phone simply stops working. Luckily for you your phone is still within the Warranty Period. You go to the nearest Repair Centre. You give them your phone. Now its up to the the company and its technicians as to how well do they treat your phone. If they treat it well and repair it with concern then you’ll surely get an up-to-date phone back. But what if they dont treat it properly? anyways your phone is not working. What if they keep on delaying your phone delivery?
So it is very important that you also look at this aspect while making a choice.

Features are not everything
There are many varieties of phones available in the market and there is no single phone which we can call as the ultimate phone.....not even the iPhone 4S OR Samsung Note because every phone has some pros and cons, said that you have to decide which phone to buy considering the various above mentioned aspects. prioritize your requirements and decide.

Happy Buying!!

    1. Hey Ankur,
you have quite a good budget and in this range there are many Smartphones available including BB Curve 9380, Samsung Omnia W I8350, Sony Xperia Pro, Samsung Galaxy S Plus, Sony Xperia neo V, Lava Xolo X900.
All phones in this range are always quite awesome in terms of features. Personally, I would suggest you to buy a Newly launched model because it increases the chances of getting an OS update which is so very important these days.

  3. Hey Krunal,
Sony Xperia Active is now an old phone and did not do so well in the markets. Sony Xperia Go is a similar phone with almost all the good features of Active. But it is yet to release in India.

There is another similar phone here: http://www.gadgetsofindia.com/2012/06/motoroladefyxt535-india-price.html

  4. my budget is 25K and i seen 2-3 models in market but little confusing, I have seen Sony Xperia p, Samsung galaxy S Advance & Samsung Galaxy S II, So please sugest me a best phone, I know there will be some cons but its Ok.

  5. See all the three phones are good especially Galaxy S II and Xperia P. Both the phones are good. Xperia P doesnt have an external memory slot. But it does have 16GB internal memory. Whereas Galaxy S II is more costly than Xperia P. As Xperia P is a newer model just launched couple of months ago it has a higher possibility of receiving an Android OS update.

  7. Hey Anshumaan,
Thats a tough question that you have asked. I would rather suggest you to visit a store like Croma Retail. You can have a look at the various phones they put on demonstration for the buyers. I really appreciate this about Croma Store. Some noteworthy the mobile phones which fall into your budget are HTC Explorer, Karbonn A9, Micormax A70, Samsung Galaxy Y Duos, Spice Stellar Mi425 (this one would be priced around 10k)

  10. Hi Saket,
HTC One V is a good phone. There is Lava Xolo X900 which is priced at around 20500rs. Also, there is Samsung Galaxy S Advance but it is still a gingerbread phone.

  11. Hi Vineet,
Motorola Defy Mini XT320 is a good phone. Overall I would say "budget phone with good features"
I doubt the possibility of an OS update on this phone.

  13. If you want a QWERTY keypad + touch phone + Smart Phone then there is hardly any good choice available in the market apart from a few phones like Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro ...
And yes its a good phone as it has all the features one looks for in a smart phone
But it is still a little expensive as in the same price range one can get latest smart phones which come with Android OS 4.0

  14. I'm thinking if buying a Samsung galaxy y duos...but i'm really confused with the reviews...though most of them are good and recommend people to buy that phone...some are really bad and suggest people not to buy it...I've had a sony ericson Yendo previously and its the worst phone i ever had...i dnt wanna repeat the same mistake by buying a bad phone....Please help me

  15. Hi Naomi,
I understand how it feels to own a phone which is so not useful.... first make your mind.. do you need a dual sim phone? If yes then Galaxy Y Duos is the best option.
If you are okay with a single SIM phone I would recommend you to make a choice between Galaxy Y Duos and HTC Explorer...
Also, if budget is not an issue you can always increase your budget.... then you will have many more better options

  18. Ankit and Ganesh.... I can definitely help you make a better decision.
Ankit- On paper all the smartphones are gr8 for the value paid for them. Specially, Spice Stellar MI 355 which is a value for money phone. However, I do not have a first hand experience of this phone hence I cannot advice you whether or not it will be a good experience.
Ganesh - If you have a budget of upto 10k then you have a broad range of phones whihc includes the likes of Samsung Galaxy Y, HTC Explorer, Micromax Ninja...
If you have a liking towards iball branded phones then you are on a right direction
