You have to keep in mind the following 10 most important aspects:
- Weight
- Size (Dimensions)
- Screen
- Battery
- Price
- Processor
- RAM
- HDD
- OS
- Warranty
Let us discuss each type aspect and understand our priorities:
Weight of the Laptop/Notebook
- Lighter the Laptop/Notebook the easier it will become to handle and work on it
- Heavier the Laptop/Notebook the more are the chances that you might accidentally drop it down while moving around.
- Heavier the Laptop/Notebook-- tougher for you to carry it from your place of work to your place of residence.
- Average weight of a Laptop is around 2 kgs
Size (Dimensions) of the Laptop/Notebook
- Your Laptop has to be MOBILE
- You will carry it around as a substitute to your Desktop
- The dimensions L x B (Length x Breadth) should not be more than >18" x >13" and ideally >15" x >11"
Screen of the Laptop/Notebook
- An ideal screen size is not more than 15 inches for Laptops/notebooks
- LED is always better than LCD display as LED will also be easy on your power consumption and it will be brighter
- A screen which is bright is always better if you are prone to working in open environment
- Higher the screen resolution the clearer will be the output
Battery of Laptop/Notebook
- Battery is the most important aspect if you use laptop/notebook in a true sense
- Make Sure that the model has a Li-Ion battery as they are more efficient and reliable
- Some companies offer an extra battery in-place of the DVD drive if you are ready.
Price of the Laptop/notebook
- Price is of course an important factor and you know how much you wish to spend on your new Laptop/Notebook.
- Do remember do not compromise for a couple of thousand bugs if you can get a better ASSET as it will stay around you for quite a while.
- Laptops are ranged right from 20k to infinite (exaggeration)
- You make the choice.
Processor
- Intel and AMD are always innovating. Intel is the lead runner in the Laptop Processor segment and its latest offerings are i3, i5 and i7 processors. All three are good and are better than core 2 duo and Dual Core processors any day.
- Core i3s are rated with three stars, i5s have four stars, and i7s have five.
- Unless you are totally into heavy computing tasks like HD games(even they work well) i3 will do the job brilliantly.
- If you are just a normal user with no great computing requirements then you might opt for a lower end and lower priced Dual Core Pentium or Core 2 Duo processors.
RAM
- Minimum RAM has to be 1GB these days and it normally comes in the cheapest of the Laptops and Notebooks.
- Minimum reccommended RAM should be 2GB if you are using the 32bit Windows XP/Vista/7 OS or minimum 3GB if you are on a 64bit version.
- More RAM will help you optimize your battery performance as well.
HDD or Hard Disk Drive for Laptop/Notebook
- Never compromise on this front as in today's internet world even the biggest of the Hard disks run full within a year.
- finally it depends upon you as to how much Hard Disk space would be enough for you.
- Generally, 180GB of Hard Disk is a Must for a Laptop.
Operating System
- Inorder to reduce prices companies these days offer LINUX based OS instead of proprietary OS like Windows 7
- Hence, if you buy such a LINUX based lappy you will have to purchase the OS of your choice.
- Windows 7 OS is my choice.
Warranty
- Well, you would not let your Lappy get spoilt in anyway...but it happens.
- And when this does you would need a Warranty.
- Never buy a Laptop/Notebook or any other Gadget without a Proper Bill and a Warranty Card.
